During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Stranger Things star David Harbour debuted a brand new Black Widow clip for Marvel Studios’ long-awaited MCU feature, which is scheduled to make its debut in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on Friday, July 9. The video features a new look at Harbour’s Alexei as he shows off his old Red Guardian costume to his family including Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha, Florence Pugh’ Yelena, and Rachel Weisz’s Melina. This comes after Harbour seemingly teased the appearance of the Winter Guard including Ursa Major and Crimson Dynamo, who are known as Russia’s answer to the Avengers in the comics.
Black Widow is expected to be set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The film follows Natasha Romanoff as she confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson, whose character was last seen during Avengers: Endgame, where she sacrificed her life in order for Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye to obtain the Soul stone in Vormir. Joining her are David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina, Ray Winstone as Dreykov, head of The Red Rom, and O-T Fagbenle as Mason.
It is directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) from a script written by Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision), who recently signed an overall deal with Marvel Studios and 20th Television. The upcoming film marks the first MCU film for Marvel Studios’ Phase 4.
